The Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department decided to offer this specialized graduate program in Electricity Transmission and Distribution Systems, with an emphasis in the administration and finance of electrical systems, as a response to the needs of the electrical sector and industry in Colombia, and in relation to the efficient management of electrical systems and the solution of current problems.
The objective of this program is to form experts in modern methods and technologies in the planning, design and management of transmission and distribution systems for electricity.
The students will be trained in specialized activities such as the technical and economic evaluation of investment projects for expansion, remodeling and modernization for transmission and distribution systems in the electricity sector; the analysis and evaluation of projects for substitution, savings, and conservation of electricity and load management; the theory of organizations and their application to public services; financial analysis in public service utilities; evaluation of strategies for the purchase and sale of energy in the framework of the new regulations; the technical and economic evaluation, and implementation of programs to control physical losses and non-technical losses in the distribution system; the development of optimum expansion plans for transmission and distribution systems in urban and rural areas; the general concepts of strategic planning and the evolution of the planning process; analysis of reliability and maintainability of distribution networks, and the implementation of optimal plans for the maintenance and operation of networks; modern techniques for the management of distribution company networks; the obligation of computer techniques and IT systems for the optimization of planning, design, operation and control of distribution systems; criteria for comprehensive control projects, and the design and implementation of models for the analysis and operation of distribution lines and networks.
